Biography

Dr. Alexandru Atim is a native of Romania, where he received his BS degree in Mathematics at the University of Bucharest. Dr. Atim moved to USA in 2001 and he received a MS degree in 2004 and a PhD degree in mathematics in 2008 at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX.

After his graduation, Dr. Atim was appointed Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina in Lancaster, SC, where he worked until 2010.  From 2010 until 2018 Dr. Atim taught at Benedict College in Columbia, SC, where he was awarded tenure and promoted Associate Professor. Dr. Atim joined the Department of Mathematics at Columbia College as an Associate Professor of Mathematics in Fall 2018.

Dr. Atim’s primary research interests are functional analysis and topological groups. Recently, Dr. Atim has devoted his attention to preparing students for the actuarial examination.  He has established a program for tutoring and mentoring students for Praxis examination at Columbia College. He is also involved in research projects on Fibonacci Numbers with undergraduate students. Dr. Atim is one of the founders and an organizer of the Carolina Math Seminar.
